April 18-19

Good morning. It's 2:30 a.m. and I'm sitting at the Command Center trying to catch up on the day. These first pictures were sent by Nita and Darrell Warner.

Old 81 heading south from Pembina.
It was time to finish closing the dike wall this morning. A half dozen men along with the same number of high school students put in the last sections.

There was a flood committee meeting at 4:30 Monday. About 36 people showed up for the meeting. Tuesday there will be a public meeting at 7:00 at the Community Center. We are still in need of people to walk the dike and to sit at the Command Center. The Red is at 50.4 feet now. The National Guard will come to help with dike patrol when it reaches 51 ft. but we will still need local help. Please visit the Command Center to volunteer. The "High Water Cafe" opened today. The Legion Auxiliary ladies will be in charge of the kitchen. They also welcome volunteers and donations.

Students from the high school went to Neche Monday to fill more sandbags there. They anticipate the water going over Hwy 18 at Neche sometime Tues. The students will fill more sandbags in Pembina on Tuesday.

Turn out was a little slow to sign up for dike patrol or sitting at the Command Center. Several slots are still open. Please stop by tomorrow and volunteer your time. The National Guard will be here to walk the dike once it reaches 51 feet.

The river is at 49.36 ft tonight. The National Weather Service is still predicting a crest of 53-54 ft the last week in April.

There was a good turn out of volunteers to help lay sandbags at the bridge this afternoon. With 25 people we were done in less than half an hour.

It's snowing here tonight. Looks like we've had about 2 inches. Most of it is melting so it's wet and sloppy outside.

The flood committee met this afternoon. Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. we will be putting some sandbags at the Pembina River bridge. Help is always welcome!!

The river was at 47.77 ft tonight. We will begin dike patrols on Monday. The Command Center will be opening at 4:00 p.m. Sunday for volunteers to come in and sign up for walking the main Pembina dike. You must be 18 years old or older to walk.

The next flood committee meeting will be Monday at 4:30.

April 12

Not much going on here today. The ice jam broke through at Neche so their water went down considerably.

The Governor flew into Pembina and drove to Neche this afternoon to meet with Neche and Pembina residents to assess the flood situation.
